OLD TIME RADIO - 1 CD-ROM - 11 mp3

Total Time: 2:44:28

Radio, stage, screen and TV personalities supporting the 1954 nation-wide polio fund appeal of the Sister Elizabeth Kenny Foundation on a volunteer basis comprise a virtual "Who's Who in the Entertainment Field."
Marvin L. Kline, national executive director, announced the roster of top-notch entertainers who contributed their time and talent in this year's effort to aid the Kenny Foundation to raise funds to carry on its program to prevent polio crippling. "Your Rhythm Revue," a 15-minute transcribed musical variety radio series, stars Eddie Fisher, Perry Como, George Shearing, Lena Horne, The Four Lads, Nat "King" Cole, Duke Ellington, Bobby Hackett, Johnny Desmond, Patti Page, Liberace, Hugo Winterhalter and Dennis Day. Featured in "On Stage," a series of five-minute transcribed radio dramatic readings, are Edward G. Robinson, Henry Fonda, Jean Hersholt, Ronald Colman, Joseph Cotten, Lloyd Nolan and Charles Coburn. Being seen in "TV Spots on Film," one-minute appeals, are John Cameron Swayze, John Daly, Rosalind Russell, Burl Ives, Warren Hull, Kim Hunter, Art Carney and Danny Thomas. "Funds which these entertainers are helping to raise will aid the Kenny foundation to provide the Kenny treatment to polio patients, regardless of race, color, creed or financial circumstances," Mr. Kline said. "The contributions also will assist the Kenny Foundation to train additional Kenny Therapists, finance medical research, sponsor medical seminars and furnish Kenny Therapists on an emergency basis in areas where the incidence of polio is high."

Because acute polio patients are very sick people who require regular care, in addition to the special techniques of the Kenny treatment, the Kenny Therapist is primarily a highly-skilled assistant to the physician.
The Sister Elizabeth Kenny Foundation carefully selects registered nurses and physical therapists to be trained as Kenny Therapists. Under scholarship arrangements, candidates are trained at Elizabeth Kenny Institute in Minneapolis, the Foundation's international training center.
Students serve through two periods of polio incidence during their courses, which include classroom instruction and work with victims of the disease. Before receiving a Kenny certificate, the trainee is given opportunity to demonstrate ability to manage polio cases from admission to final discharge.
A corps of over 100 Kenny Therapists already has been trained to administer the full Kenny treatment as originated by the late Sister Elizabeth Kenny, Australian nurse.
Annual public appeals provide funds that make it possible for the Kenny Foundation to train more urgently needed Kenny Therapists, and to carry on other phases of its program. These include sponsorship of research and medical seminars.
As the Kenny Foundation trains additional Kenny Therapists, so, too, will benefits to polio victims multiply. The Kenny method is generally accepted as the basis for the best treatment offered polio patients anywhere in the world.
