In 1947, John Stanley and Alfred Shirley took over the roles of Holmes and Watson. Both Conway and Stanley emulated Rathbone. Undoubtedly, the producers wanted the program to continue in the Rathbone tradition and were consciously seeking actors who could model his voice. But it goes to show the profound influence and popularity that Rathbone generated as Holmes.
